A New Chapter in Isotope Production

A Meras Annos is an innovative start-up aiming to produce stable isotopes, particularly carbon isotopes, using cryogenic distillation technologies. This approach relies on the use of extremely tall cryogenic columns operating at low temperatures, enabling:

  • The production of high-purity isotopes;
  • Significantly higher production capacity compared to traditional methods;
  • Energy consumption reduced by up to 10 times.

A distinctive feature of the process is the integration of a heat recovery system, which further improves energy efficiency and reduces operating costs. This technology positions the company as an innovative and sustainable leader in the sector

Pioneers in Stable Isotope Production through Advanced Technologies

The company A Meras Annos (AMA) is at the forefront of stable isotope production, leveraging innovative cryogenic distillation technology. This advanced technique utilizes ultra-tall distillation columns, exceeding 300 meters in height, specifically designed to separate and purify various chemical species. This approach enables the production of high-purity isotopes in significantly larger quantities than conventional methods.

A key feature of the process is the integration of heat recycling technology, which enhances energy efficiency and reduces operational costs, positioning the company as both an innovative and sustainable leader in isotope production.

The production facility will be strategically located at the Seruci mine in southwestern Sardinia, Italy, taking advantage of the site’s unique infrastructure and logistical advantages.

A Spin-Off of the Aria Project

This initiative is a spin-off of the publicly funded Aria Project (Progetto Aria), which is building the world’s first ultra-tall (350-meter) cryogenic distillation column. The Aria Project’s primary goal is to produce ultra-pure argon for the DarkSide-20k dark matter experiment at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy.

Leveraging this groundbreaking research and infrastructure, the stable isotope production facility represents the next step in applying cryogenic distillation technology to a broader range of applications.
